Mp Emmanuel Campaigns For Local Cadastre Candidate

St. Maarten – National Alliance MP Christophe Emmanuel has started a rather unorthodox campaign for Marcia Peterson-Richardson, who is currently the acting head of the Cadastre. After his tee shirt proclaiming Haitians Lives Matter, he now sports one reading Marcia Peterson-Richardson for Director, followed by the hash tag #sxmfirst.

Emmanuel says that the Cadastre board is currently incomplete and not authorized to take decisions. According to the MP there are only two board members, while there should be at least three. Yesterday this newspaper was unable to verify the accuracy of these statements.

The national ordinance of 10-10-10 that established the Cadastre in St. Maarten mentions that the members of the supervisory board are “appointed, suspended and fired by national decree.” The supervisory board “appoints, suspends and fires” the Cadastre’s management.

The national decree does not contain details about the authority of the management and the supervisory board. It refers for further regulations to the foundation’s articles of incorporation.

Emmanuel wants to prevent that an unnamed retired Cadastre director from the Netherlands or one of the two remaining board members gets the job. “I am pro-active and I am saying that we have a suitable candidate,” he says.

Peterson-Richardson, who worked as the assistant to former director Clemens Roos, has been appointed to the post as acting director for a period of three months. This term can be renewed if the situation requires it.
